Roaming Through Romans Wednesday Night Course

Update for Week 1, Feb 24th:

If you are able to have read Romans 1:1-3:8 that would be great. There will be an opportunity for general questions.

A particular focus will be Romans 2:17-3:8. If you have Tom Wright’s “Paul for Everyone” book, then the chapters that cover those sections (pages 35-47) may be helpful for you.

You may find this last Sunday’s talk useful as an introduction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7PTdEspqdA

General Information:

  1. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, Feb 17th, with a broadcast service from St. Tim’s. The service will start at 7:30pm and can be found at this link: https://www.facebook.com/StTimsCrookes. It will include some introductory material to the Roaming through Romans series, you may wish to attend.
  2. The Lent course itself will begin on Feb 24th, and run weekly up to and including March 31st. It’s not absolutely necessary to attend every week. There is more detail on dates and topics in the “weekly rhythms” section of the material here: http://www.thevinesheffield.org.uk/roam2021detail
  3. Each evening will begin at 8pm and will generally follow the structure of a short presentation and large group engagement, followed by discussion and prayer in smaller groups in zoom breakout rooms. We will aim to finish this structured part of the evening not long after 9pm. Those who wish to then continue in conversation and Q&A in the larger group can do so – the zoom meeting will stay open – but you may wish to be free of the screen at that point!
  4. We will need to be able to communicate with those who wish to attend in order to share details about zoom and things like that. If you haven’t already, can you let Will know that you wish to attend and provide him with your email address.  Contact him at will@thevinesheffield.org.uk. If you know others are interested, please let them know they should be in touch.
  5. Some people have indicated to me that they are part of a group which wishes to participate together. If that is the case, can you let Will know if you would like to be with your group when we go into breakout rooms, or if you would like to be connected in with others you may not have met before. If you would like to be with your group we will need to know which group it is and who is in the group, please let us know.
  6. While not essential, the recommended reading for this series is Tom Wright’s, Paul for Everyone – Romans, Part 1: Chapters 1-8.  It is structured around daily readings. You may want to purchase it. It is available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Paul-Everyone-Romans-Part-Chapters/dp/0281057362/

Please contact Will at any point – email or on 07548050745 – if you have any questions.
