Mutual Blessings

Mutual Blessings is a ministry of The Vine that has an ecumenical focus. It has existed for some time to offer spiritually-enriching practices, using the principles of Godly Play, to people of all ages or needs, especially those who may be on the edge of the church’s ministry.

Mutual Blessings is Sheffield-based and includes the Doncaster and Goole areas. We have had three areas of focus:

  1. Supporting schools, with the help of their local churches, in using Godly Play in R.E. but also in shaping the philosophy and pedagogy of encounter and wondering.
  2. Supporting churches to re-shape their ministry to become more spiritually enriching through Godly Play, by providing churches with advice and consultancy. We have also been fortunate to offer grant funding, from time to time, to financially support those developing a Godly Play ministry (see below).
  3. Developing the use of Godly Play in Care settings for older people.
This work has developed into Stories for the Soul which has its own website at

Funding for Godly Play in the Sheffield Area

Mutual Blessings has been given generous donations from the Church of England Diocese of Sheffield, the Sheffield Church Burgesses, and the Methodist Sheffield District. This means we can give financial support to those developing a Godly Play ministry.

The money must be used within the Diocese of Sheffield (which is South Yorkshire and the area around Goole) or the Sheffield Methodist District (which includes Retford and the Peak) but it is available for all denominations.

Please get in touch if you are unsure if your area qualifies for a grant.

Training grants of £150: are available towards the accredited Godly Play 3-day training.
